MOA
2017 GAMES
July 25, 2017
Dear Past Participants
We hope your summer is going well and that if you have not yet decided to participate in the 2017 games that you soon will. To take the pressure off signing up this week, the games committee would like to inform you that the registration deadline has been extended until August 11, 2017. We have been told that there have been complaints about having to register with the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre on line before registering for the games. If you want to bypass this, just print off the registration form, fill it out and mail it with a cheque and we will look after the LCLC registration.
You will still have to make your cheque out to the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre as we are using their software for registration. If you are part of a team, please remember to identify who your team captain is so that we can place you in the proper sport.
Besides the games we have a lot more to offer. The Opening Ceremonies will be a lot of fun with singing, dancing, food and a great chance to reunite with friends from around the province. As an addition to the games, there will be an Active Senior/Healthy Senior fair on Thursday from 9 – 4 p.m. Drop in and learn how you can become more active or learn things that you can do to make your lifestyle healthier.
The theme of Fun, Fitness and Friendship will be enhanced through three pop-up café s throughout the week, along with entertainment at the Opening Ceremonies and Closing Banquet. Combine this with Lunenburg County beauty and hospitality and you will have a great stay and enjoy the games.
Your sincerely
Carroll Randall

Dear Past Participants
Greetings from the South Shore! I hope by now that you have all seen or heard about our 2017 games being held in Lunenburg County. Registration has started and will continue until July 28. One of the major recommendations from the 2015 games was “do not extend the deadline date!” So July 28 will be it. There is also an early bird prize for registering before July 16.
As a past participant, you know the registration process takes a long time and a lot of detail is required. So when registering on-line please read all the words and follow the prompts. The process requires you to become a client of the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre system as we are using their software. You must then register with the NS 55+ Games Society and then register for your events. Please make any cheques payable to the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre. Registration is going well and some events are quickly filling up. We are having a predicted walk and swim but these will happen at the venue and do not need to be registered for. The 5K and 10K micro-marathons are being looked at to see if scheduling can be changed to accommodate more people. More information will follow in our next update.
Our committee is working hard to ensure that the events will run smoothly but we also want to ensure that the theme of Fun, Fitness and Friendship is present throughout the entire games. Registration packages can start to be picked up on Wednesday, with a Health Fair on Thursday; opening ceremonies with lots of local Lunenburg County entertainment and food on Thursday evening where we will welcome the athletes. We are also having three pop-up coffee houses throughout the three days at the Bridgewater Legion with more great performers and lots of time to get together with new and old friends. The closing banquet at the Best Western Plus on Saturday evening will be our last event.
Talk to your friends, put that team together and start the process. We are waiting to see you in September.
Sincerely
Carroll & Robin

To Past 55+ Games Participants
Events Lunenburg County was awarded the 2017 NS 55+ Games and in turn established our committee, “The NS 55+ Games 2017 Lunenburg County.” Some of you may have seen us at the 2015 games gathering information and stealing, I mean borrowing all of their great ideas.
First things first, we must congratulate the NS 55+ 2015 Games New Glasgow/Pictou County for putting on a great event and the theme of Fun, Fitness and Friendship was evident everywhere that we went those three days. Spending those few days in Pictou County gave us great insight on what the games should look like and how they should be run.
September 13-16, 2017 Lunenburg County
Our goal is to spread the games throughout Lunenburg County. Below is a list of all the activities and sports that will be offered for the 2017 games. There is also a list of hotels available throughout the region. We do not have all of the details worked out but we wanted to give you a heads up on what information that we have to date.
The passive games will be held at the Best Western Plus in Cookville. Golf will be at the Sherwood Golf & Country Club outside of Chester. Hockey will be held at both the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre in Bridgewater and at Queens Place Emera Centre in Liverpool. Curling will be at the Bridgewater Curling Club.
We also wanted to give you our social media information so that you will be able to check on our progress over the next few months and keep up-to-date. Registration will start on April 3 and go until the end of July. Please watch (and share) our Facebook page or keep checking our website. We look forward to hosting you in Lunenburg County in 2017.

Gear Up for Nova Scotia 55+ Games in Lunenburg County
Lunenburg County will be hosting the Nova Scotia 55+ Games in 2017 from Sept. 13 to 16. The event, with the theme of Fun, Fitness and Friendship, gives people 55 years and older an opportunity to test their skills against people their own age from across the province.
Every two years, the games are hosted in a region of Nova Scotia where up to 1,000 athletes come together to enjoy fun, fitness and friendship. If you like to participate in sports, activities or passive games, check out what will be happening in Lunenburg County in 2017 at www.2017ns55plusgames.ca
Right now, our local recreation departments are working to organize some Try-It activity sessions for seniors across Lunenburg County in anticipation of the upcoming games.
Some sessions to look forward to this October are: washer toss, darts, 8-ball, shuffleboard, mountain biking, archery and horseshoes. They will also be offering duplicate bridge, auction 45s, cribbage and scrabble. Many seniors enjoy curling and a Learn to Curl and a stick curling session will be held at the Chester Curling Club in the fall.
The 2017 committee is working on finalizing the list of 26 events, but a sneak preview can be found on Facebook site (search for NS 55+ Games 2017). If you are interested in participating or want to get involved as a volunteer, keep an eye on the website or send a message on Facebook. The 2017 games are brought to us by Events Lunenburg County.
