Memorandum of association
The name of the Society is:THE NOVA SCOTIA 55 PLUS GAMES SOCIETY
“On a volunteer and non-profit basis the Society will seek to achieve these objects:”
- To
promote the participation of Nova Scotia Seniors, Age 55 years and
older, in recreational, sporting, cultural, educational and creative
activities throughout the Province;
- To improve the quality of
life for Nova Scotia seniors by encouraging and celebrating physical,
social and creative achievements attained through participation and
friendly competition;
- To demonstrate the value(s) and abilities
of persons 55 years or more by creating an awareness of their
contribution to active and healthy lifestyles;
- To engender a
sense of community spirit and provincial pride by providing the
opportunity and catalyst for bringing seniors, their families and the
Nova Scotia communities at large together to become involved at the
local, regional, provincial and national levels in the Senior Games;
- To coordinate the
organization and staging of the Nova Scotia 55
Plus Games; and
- To
being a non-profit organization; acquire funds, whether through gifts
or otherwise, to assist the Society with its objectives and goals.
- To
acquire by way of grant, gift, purchase, bequest, devise or otherwise,
real and personal property and to use and apply such property to the
realization of the objects of the Society;
- To buy, own, hold,
lease, mortgage, sell and convey such real and personal property as may
be necessary or desirable in the carrying out of the objects of the
Society.
Provided
that nothing herein contained shall permit the Society to carry on any
trade, industry, or business and the Society shall be carried on
without purpose of gain to any of the members and that any surplus or
any accretions of the Society shall be used solely for the purposes of
the Society and the promotion of its objects.
Provided,
further, that if for any reason the operations of the Society are
terminated or are wound up, or are dissolved and there remains, at that
time, after satisfaction of all its debts and liabilities, any property
whatsoever, the same shall be paid to some other charitable
organization in Canada, having objects similar to those of the Society.
The activities of the Society are to be carried on in the Province of NOVA SCOTIA.
