Yarmouth resident, David Doucette, a participant in the hockey and pickleball competitions at the 2021 Nova Scotia 55+ Games, hosted by the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores region of Nova Scotia, was chosen as the first recipient of the Robert Macleod “Spirit” Award at the close of this year’s Games. The award was created in 2021 to recognize Games participants who reflected, in attitude and behaviour, the Games central theme of “Fun, Fitness and Friendship”.

The Board received over 40 nominations of many outstanding participants in a variety of competitions who contributed to the camaraderie and spirit of the games.

Mr. Doucette received numerous nominations which described him as “a great team player and sportsman with a great attitude towards competition in sport”. He was presented with a plaque and prize by Board Member Ellen Rudderham Gaudet courtesy of the 55+ Games Board and the Yarmouth Rodd Grand Inn.

The award is named after Robert (Bob) MacLeod who spent over 15 years on both the Provincial and National 55+ Games Boards and provided outstanding leadership and support to the 55+ Games in Nova Scotia during that time.
