Opening Ceremonies Speech

Hello everyone,

On behalf of the Nova Scotia 55+ Provincial Games Society, it’s my honour to welcome everyone to the 2025 Provincial Games hosted here in the beautiful community of Bridgewater and surrounding Lunenburg County.

We’re here to celebrate not only competition and achievement, but also friendship, community, and the spirit of healthy living. These Games showcase the energy, wisdom, and strength of people 55 and older across the province. You are proof that age is not a limit, but a stage of life rich with opportunity, resilience, and happiness.

We are especially proud to host these Games in a region known for its beauty, hospitality, and culture. Bridgewater and Lunenburg County welcomes each of you with open hearts. From the lakes, the ocean, rolling rivers and forests nestled in historic coastal regions and traditions, this is a place that embodies community spirit and pride.

Today and for the games, we also wish to acknowledge, respect and gratitude, the Indigenous and First Nations peoples of Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral territory in which we gather. The stewardship of these lands continues to guide us in building a future of respect, reconciliation, and shared celebration. We walk together in friendship.

I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the NS 55+ Board, the host committee, volunteers, local businesses, and the many sponsors who have worked tirelessly to bring the vision and games to life. Without your dedication, none of this would be possible. Your efforts are an example of the strength of Nova Scotia communities working together.

To all our athletes and participants, this is your time to shine. To compete and support one another. Whether you walk away with medals, memories, or new friendships, you are all champions in the truest form.

Let’s celebrate the days ahead with enthusiasm and respect. Together, we’ll create lasting memories, new bonds, and showcase the best of what Nova Scotia has to offer.

With that, I’m honoured to officially declare the 2025 Nova Scotia 55+ Provincial Games open! Welcome everyone, good luck… and let the Games begin!
